Sledge Hockey

Grade 3 to Grade 8 did sledge hockey. Bill came in to show us how to do sledge. We got to go and play sledge hockey in the hockey rink.

By Leiland

We went to the hockey rink. We put on our helmets and went to the ice and sat in the sled. We had pegs to push us on the ice. We played British Bulldog. We were numbered 1 or 2 and we had a race. 1's went to race each other and 2's did the same thing. It was fun. We wish we could do it again. Our favourite part was when we played British Bulldog.

You use two sticks with points on the end. You use one left stick and one right stick. You also use a sled and a puck. It is like hockey but it's hard to raise the puck. It is sometimes hard to move and turn. Even if you aren't hurt you can still play.

Guest Speaker

During French and Guidance, we went down to the gym for an assembly. We had a guest named Jordan. He talked about how he was born with four fingers on his one hand, and four toes on one of his feet. He got his foot cut off and had a disability, so he played sledge hockey. He showed us that even though he had a disability, he could still play sports. We enjoyed hearing about Jordan.

By Hailey and Reese

(Jordan was a well-spoken young man. At only 14 years old, he talked to the students about his decision to have his foot amputated two years ago, so that he would be able to be even more mobile and active. His sense of humour, positive attitude, and honest answers to the many questions our students asked really allowed them to understand that how we deal with our challenges is more important than what we would consider a disability. ~ Mrs. Tervoort)
