Snowmen are big or small. If we make a snowman, they are big snowmen. They have a carrot nose, buttons down their body, sticks as arms, and a hat and scarf on their faces. They have three circles as a body: the bottom one is big, the middle one is the second biggest, and the head is the smallest.

We have gym on Days 2, 3 and 6. My favourite part of gym is playing swoop ball. This year we get to change for gym. We like to play outside, and we also like to play inside. Our teacher is Mrs. S. We play a variety of games! We play games like tag and dodgeball, but we haven't played dodgeball yet this year. We talk about the rules a lot! So, that's our gym day.
By Tasha, Grace and Reese On the first day of snow, we were all excited. People started making snowmen and building, using snow. It was somewhere in October before Halloween, for Balmoral after the end of the day. The snow melted. It was good while it lasted. Everybody was so excited they did not listen to the teacher. It was snowing really hard.
By Brendan, J.D., Chris, Gavin and Leiland The team names for floor hockey are Stick Magnets, Hat-Trick Heroes, Toothless Wonders and Everyday I'm Byfuglien. Stick Magnets and Toothless Wonders tied a game.
By Leiland and Gavin (All of our students from Grades 5 to 8 are part of an intramural sports program during our first activity break. They are on mixed grade teams and will be playing a variety of sports/games twice a cycle. They started with volleyball, and are now onto floor hockey. ~ Mrs. Tervoort) On October 24 our school participated in a reading day. We read from 12:40-1:05. Everyone in our school had to stop what we were doing and read. When it was time for reading, the principal went on the speakers and told everyone to stop and read!
By Leiland, Chris and Brendan On September 30, we went down to the gym and took pictures with everyone that had an orange shirt. The last residential school was closed in 1996. Before the last residential school was closed there was a girl named Phyllis who went to school with a new, bright orange shirt. When she got there they made her change into different clothes. Then they cut her hair just below her ears.
By Chris, Brendan and Leiland (We watched several short videos that talked about what residential schools are, and why we acknowledge this day. We read books that told about what some indigenous people experienced when taken to these schools. After many discussions, we designed our own paper orange shirts. We made orange hearts that told how we can help others feel that they matter. We finished off the week creating our own memory bag, with pictures and writings that told what things we would have missed if we had to go away to school, what we would want to take with us, or even memories that we would want to keep. ~ Mrs. Tervoort) On September 19, Joe McLellan came to our school. He told us about promises his people made when they were born. He shared his wisdom with us about how to be a good person. He has written many stories and read us one of his books. He got a lot of tobacco for presents.
By J. D., Leiland, Chris, Gavin and Brendan On this day, Joe McLellan read us some of his books that he made and one he made us laugh. By Cole On September 16, the staff and students, Grades 1 to 8, headed out to the playground and ran laps to support Terry Fox and his foundation. The weather was beautiful, as we had our cards hole-punched to keep track of the number of laps we completed. Students also raised money to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation, for a total of $1152. Thank you to everyone that supported this important cause that is very close to our hearts!
