On the 20th of June we went to Fort Whyte and learned about the people of the prairie and went inside a sod house and found out what they would have used in the winter to go to the bathroom.
By: Cole (This was our final field trip of the year. The Kindergarten and Gr. 1/2 classes, along with our class, headed to Winnipeg to Fort Whyte. We all had the same program, "The People of the Prairie" , but done at our own levels...about the indigenous people, the Métis, the settlers, and us! We learned about the buffalo and the teepee of the indigenous people, the sod houses and the Red River carts of the settlers, the sash of the Métis...and so much more! It was a busy, but great day! We ended our stay at Fort Whyte by enjoying our lunch and visiting, then heading back to school. It was a great field trip! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) On April 6th, we went on a bus to Stony Mountain! Brant-Argyle School and Warren Elementary School came too! "Dib and Dob" is about two brothers who have been away from home so long that they developed their own language! In the play, the brothers were trying to find a place to sleep! Dib was drinking all of the water and Dob was getting mad at him. Dob got pulled into a tree and a big monster came out. Dib went in the monster to find his brother.
To rate it, we would give it an 8 out of 10, because I could not see a thing, and we really didn't know what the were saying. They kept on repeating it over and aver again. Otherwise it was good. By Reese and Grace and Sage ("Dib and Dob and the Journey Home" is a play put on by MTYP (Manitoba Theatre for Young People). We were fortunate that Stony Mountain School invited us to attend their performance, as it can be too much for a small school like us to try to afford on our own. It is always fun to see live theatre, and this troupe puts on an entertaining show for the students! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) On Monday, it was Moustache Monday. We wore moustaches. On Tuesday, it was Tourist Tuesday, We dressed up as tourists. Also on Tuesday, there was a bake sale for The Ladybug Foundation. Tasha helped! On Wednesday there is White Out Wednesday. We all wore white. On Friday, it is Fairy Tale Friday. We dress up as a fairy tale person. Then it's SPRING BREAK!
By Tasha and Grace (Because this week is sponsored by the Manitoba Milk Board, some of our activities are based on the milk theme...so we wore milk moustaches, dressed in white, and on Thursday, we will celebrate Thirsty Thursday by having a milk and cookie sale. If you buy milk, you get free Oreos! It is a busy, but fun way to spend the week before Spring Break! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) On Tuesday, March 21st, the Social Justice group held a bake sale to fundraise for The Ladybug Foundation. Everything there was a dollar or less. There were mini cupcakes, Rice Krispies cake, Smores Rice Krispies cake, and more great treats that people bought in! I bought two mini cupcakes that were 50 cents each. The bake sale is going to be two days long because there was so much food. I brought in Smores Rice Krispies squares. A lot of people bought mini cupcakes!
By Sage (At the end of our two-day sale, we raised a total of $252.00 to send to The Ladybug Foundation! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) We played in the middle of summer and all the way to today. We have gloves, blockers, and sometimes pads. We have composite mini sticks, cut mini sticks and plastic. I have a warrior, Cole has a plastic one, and Leiland has a Bauer. I bring the glove and blocker.
By Gavin, Cole and Leiland (This is one of our boys' favourite activities at break time, from the younger students, up to the junior highs! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) On Tuesday, February 14th we had a dollar dance. It was fun. We got water, popcorn and prizes, and if we paid for it we would get to make Valentine cards. We also got to dance! :)
The categories for the dance prizes are partner, graceful, silly and Macarena. Tasha won for graceful dancer, and for partner, Tasha and Sunny were partners. The End By Tasha and Sunny On February 14th we had a dance. We got popcorn, water and we got to make Valentine's Day cards if we paid for it. We got to do dance competitions like Macarena, silly, graceful and partner to win prizes. The Social Justice Club had to clean up after it. Everyone who got in had to pay 1 dollar to get in, and 1 dollar for popcorn and water. We had SO Much Fun! By Kaitlyn and Sunny and Sage (This dance was organized by the school's Social Justice Club, with the proceeds going to the Heart and Stroke Association. We raised over $80. to send in! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) I love playing in the snow, because I love going snowmobiling and building snowmen.
My favourite part of playing in the snow is...riding my horse and jumping off! My favourite part is playing with my friends and going snowmobiling.! Playing in the snow is fun because you get to play with your friends, and make giant snowballs and forst, plus do gymnastics in the snow. I like playing in the snow because it is sparkly snow and I like playing with my Timber. Another of my favourite part of playing in the snow is playing with my cats and dogs. By Kaitlyn, Sunny and Tasha Starting the end of November the school started practicing the Christmas concert this year. It was "Survival Santa" based show, the final performance.
By Cole (Our entire school, Kindergarten to Grade 8, participates in our Christmas concert. The Jr. High students are the main actors, while the rest of the school is the choir. The Art students create the backdrop. The Gr. 6 to 8 Band performs several pieces. The Kindergarten students do the introduction to the concert. Each class also has their time on stage, dancing to one of the songs. ~ Mrs. Tervoort) |
