We got to do SpeedStacks. We played Stackers and Blasters, and we had a race. Chris won the set of SpeedStacks. We beat the world record. Ours was 618,394. It was so much fun. My team won the relay race. I love SpeedStacks. It was Grade 3/4 and 1/2's. It was fun!
By Keira (November 12th was the annual Stack Up! Day. People around the world joined together to help break the Guinness World Record for the most people stacking at multiple locations in one day. This is usually the beginning of our SpeedStacks club. For more information, check out the SpeedStacks official site here! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) Roots of Empathy is when we get a baby that is at least two months old that comes to visit us. This year's baby is Kennedy, born on August 25/15 (length 49.5 cm, weight 7 lb. 4 oz.). She does not like being on her tummy at all. She can sit with her mother holding her. She cannot crawl or talk, but cries a lot.
By Tasha Baby Kennedy came for a visit. We looked to see what she could do. She can't do some stuff yet. They measured the baby, then they measured Reese. She was born on August 25. She has Hip Dysplasia so she has to wear a brace to hold it up. There are three kinds of visits: pre-visits (with our Guidance Counsellor, to learn about our theme for the month), a real visit with Kennedy, and a post-visit (again with our Guidance Counsellor to talk about what we learned). By Grace and Reese When you go to the bookmobile you can get books for babies to adults. You sign them out with your pass. You go inside the bookmobile when your teacher says. Then people who don't finish stay on with the teacher until the teacher lets you sign out your books and go inside to the hall and read until everyone is done. Then you go to your room and read for a few minutes. Then back to working.
By Brendan At bookmobile you get to borrow 3 books. You can get many different kinds of books. For example, animal books, fairy tale books, Guinness World Reords, I Spy books and many more books that I can think of. The bookmobile drives all over the division. By Tasha (Our bookmobile is a huge, retrofitted "truck", lined with bookshelves full of books from our regional library in Stonewall. It arrives every three weeks so that all of our kids are able to access another source of literature! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) On November 30th we all went in the gym to celebrate Mustache Day, and to raise money for men's health issues. We got mustache cookies for $1.00 each, and then the next day for 50 cents. We raised $80.00. By Brendan and Chris Mustache Day is to raise money for men's health. Mrs. Tervoort got all of the class mustaches for Mustache Day. By Leiland Hailey got two cookies. Kaitlyn got two cookies, too. Hailey got a funny mustache. Kaitlyn got a funny mustache, too. Hailey had so much fun. Kaitlyn had so much fun, too. Hailey lost for the guess game. Kaitlyn lost for the guess game, too. Mustache Day was on Monday, November 30th. By Hailey and Kaitlyn (Having only one male teacher, who still did grow a beard and mustache for Movember, many of our female staff decided to show their support by growing out their leg hair for the month of November. After a month, judging was done based on the hairiest legs, and the longest leg hair! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) At the Remembrance Day service, the Grades 1 to 4 sang two songs that were called "Peace Like a River" and "We Can Make a Difference".
By Leiland and Gavin (Our whole school participated in this year's service on November 10th. The Kindergarten class said a poem, the Grade 5/6 class talked about the Winnipeg Falcons, and the Grade 7/8 class read the poems "In Flanders Field" and response. We also had one of our dad's, Sgt. Kachur talk to us about why it is important for us to remember on this day. ~ Mrs. Tervoort) Anthony was Jason from Friday the 13th. He won for scariest. He got a Frankenstein stuffy that makes noise. Brendan was a skeleton and his mom's friend thought he was creepy. Brendan was very happy to hear that. When Anthony went trick-or-treating he was a zombie grandpa instead of Jason. Brendan was sad to hear that. Brendan got tons of tasty chips that are going to last him a long time. Anthony got lots of candy and chips.
By Brendan and Anthony Last Friday was Halloween at school. I was a zombie. Kaitlyn was a leopard. The grade 5 to 8's got to dance and have fun in the gym. K to Gr. 4 watched a movie. The movie was Monsters Inc. We had a costume parade in the gym. The people who won were Tasha, Quinn, Anthony, Hailey, Jordan and Shaelynn. Lots of people brought candy to school so we got lots and lots of candy! By Keira and Kaitlyn On Oct. 30th we watched Monsters Inc. I like this movie because it's funny, especially when Randall gets kicked by the kid. By Anthony, Brendan and Chris Hailey was Evil Red Ridinghood. Reese was a devil. Reese gave out candy. She gave out lollipops and a chocolate bar. Hailey won a prize. It was a fun day. At the end of the day we watched a movie with the Grade 1/2 class and the Kindergarteners. We watched Monsters Inc. It was so much fun! We can't wait until next year! By Hailey and Reese (Our middle years Student Council planned our annual Halloween activities. In the afternoon, we had a costume parade. Each grade got to show off their costumes, and had the opportunity to win a prize for scariest, funniest and most original costumes. Then, the older students had a dance, with other activities, like a haunted "house", pin the brain on the monster, toilet paper mummies, xBox games, and a Halloween photo booth. The younger students watched the movie, "Monsters Inc.". ~ Mrs. Tervoort) At our school, we have a magazine sale. What you do is sell magazines to other people. How many you sell helps you get a prize. If you sell one hundred you'll get an ipad mini with 32 gigabits. If you sell 75 you'll get a remote control minion. If you sell 2 magazines you'll get a spike thing. Also if you sell two you will get a tattoo. If you sell 10 you'll get a money maker. If you sell twenty you'll get a selfie stick. That's our magazine sale.
By Tasha Lee (The magazine sale is our one main fundraiser for the year. Our students sell magazine subscriptions to family and friends, and our school gets some of the profit to go towards extra field trips or bonus activities! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) This week Brendan is Sports Reporter. Anthony is Mascot Photographer. Anthony is taking Mascot lots of places. Brendan is talking about hockey and how good he did at Rec Hockey on Friday in Balmoral.
By Brendan and Anthony (TUSC stands for Totally Unbelievable Speaker's Club. This is a formal meeting that the students run, with everyone having their own job/role to do at the meeting. Check out the link at the top of the page to learn more about our TUSC Meetings! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) It was on September 29th. It is when everyone gets a colour to wear. I got orange and Reese got green. The whole school went into the Gym and Mrs. T. made a rainbow with us and our groups. My group's name is "Orange is the New Orange". Reese's group is "Extreme Green". My group is Jake, Westyn, Maddox, Erik, Jordan, Sage, Paul, Grace, Jazlyn and Lawrence. Reese's group is Carson, Tyler, Kade, Hadley, Jacob, Anthony, Faith, Tianne, Dylan and Braxtyn. My team leader is Mrs. T. and Reese's is Mr. McLean.
By Keira and Reese On Rainbow Day every family group had t wear a certain colour. The colours were red, orange, yellow, green, dark blue, light blue, purple, pink and white. At the end of the day the whole school made a rainbow! It was like roof top pictures! By Shaelynn (Rainbow Day was our first meeting of our family groups (multi-age groups with students from Kindergarten to Grade 8). The students had time to meet their group, choose a name for their group, and then have a photo op by posing all the students into a rainbow shape! The students were told in advance what colour they should wear, to create the rainbow. Our school theme for this year is "A Gathering of Friends", and we felt that our Rainbow Day was a great start for this theme! ~ Mrs. Tervoort) |
